Greg and Kristin Evans
Greg and Kristin Evans
We have had an eventful week! When we arrived back from our holiday, Greg had an appointment with a neurosurgeon because of pain in the base of his neck and numbness and shooting pains in his left arm.
The neurosurgeon took a look at his MRI and did a few tests on his strength in his arm and said he must have surgery; nothing else would fix his problem. HIs C7 vertebra had broken and was now pressing into his spinal cord causing the pain and numbness. He also said it needed to be done as soon as possible so he didn’t suffer any permanent damage.
After a second opinion and working with our insurance company, he had surgery this past Thursday (April 29th). He had cervical disc replacement: the vertebra was replaced with a engineered plastic vertebra. Its a procedure that has been being done here in South Africa for some time.
He spent one night in ICU then has been recovering on the Neuro Surgical Ward for the last 2 nights and will hopefully come home tomorrow. He’s feeling good and the pain he had before is gone - Praise God! He’s now just recovering from the aches and pains of having major surgery.
The hospital and the doctors have all been wonderful! We are so blessed to be in a place with great private health care.
My sister Sonja came over to help me with Isaiah and has been such a blessing!
We are so grateful that Greg is recovering as well as he is and look forward to him regaining all use of his arm and back.
